Continuum Mechanics

Notation and colours

The book follows Carboni’s notation throughout. Symbols are listed here as the sections introduce them.

Colours

Colours carry meaning, and the same colour means the same thing in the text and in the demos, in both themes.

Colour Used for
, , red, green, blue a family indexed
violet what you move
darker violet what a map makes of it
orange what is being looked for

Marks

  • Essential: one of the few definitions everything else is built on (Index of terms).
  • beyond the lectures: added for this book: a proof the lectures skip, an example, a picture, a result they state without deriving. Everything unmarked is in Carboni’s lectures.
  • Proofs, solutions and asides are folded; click to open them. A link with a dotted underline opens what it names in place; click it again to close.
